Umbo co-founder Jake "The Snake" Plummer took center stage last week at the inaugural PBX Pickleball Pro-Am in Glendale, Arizona. If you've ever met Jake, you know that he feels strongly (understatement!) that former professional athletes need to continue to take care of themselves both mentally and physically after their professional careers have ended. This is true for everyone, of course, no matter their age or how good an athlete they are. But for pros in particular, their sports took a toll. They need to pay a little more attention and be a little more diligent.
Jake hasn't skipped a beat since hanging up his helmet. He's a certified yoga instructor now. He continues to hit the handball courts every week (check out Jake *trying* to teach the hosts of Good Morning Football a thing or two about handball on his appearance last week).
Jake Plummer's functional mushrooms are for Pickleball athletes too
So it's hardly a surprise that he has recently signed up to become a Pro for PBX Pickleball and that he was a part of the inaugural PBX Pickleball Pro-Am in Glendale, Arizona. He joined five-time MLB All-Star Luis "Gonzo" Gonzalez, and a load of other amazing athletes, including Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Breeja Larson and MLB All-Stars Brad Penny and Jeff Cirillo.
Was Jake able to convince Gonzo and the other athletes that they needed to add functional mushrooms to their routines? Did Jake remember to let the ball bounce in the kitchen? Did Jake enjoy a couple of back-corner winners against the baseball players? Well... 🏆🍄🔥
