An athlete's journey of healing and discovery with functional mushrooms

Jake Plummer caught up with Colorado's own Fox 31 News to talk about his journey with functional mushrooms. He says he uses various mushroom extracts for their health benefits, finding they improve his sleep, reduce inflammation, and enhance mental clarity. He credits Reishi for stress relief, Turkey Tail for immune support, Lion’s Mane for brain health, and Cordyceps for energy. Despite past injuries from football, he feels significantly better and aims to help others, particularly fellow athletes, to overcome similar challenges. Plummer also challenges the common expectation of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) for retired players, using his own health improvements to inspire change in current and former professional athletes — and in anyone who actively uses their minds and bodies.

Here are some key quotes by Jake Plummer from the interview — read the whole thing here

“It’s really helped with my sleep number one, inflammation has gone away. There are some parts of my body that are just damaged through use and taking on the abuse that I did, but otherwise my body feels great, my mind feels clear, I feel like my memory is better.”

“Most of the prognosis is, good luck, you are going to have CTE [chronic traumatic encephalopathy], and I don’t believe that.”

“I enjoyed the game of football. It’s a part of my life. It will always come before me in a room, that NFL brand, but what it can allow for me is to be in my true authentic self and then make people think a little bit and shake up the status quo somewhat."
